No, it's never gonna be that simple...
No, it's never gonna be that simple... - by aisha.kay on Polyvore.com

i can't stop poring over all the different mood boards that users have created on polyvore.com. this web-based app allows you to bring in different images to create outfit collages. it's like online fashion scrapbooking.

apparently the site's been up since 2007, but i only just discovered it this week. amazing, brilliant concept and great user interface.

letters to barack obama.

the week that Barack Obama was inducted into office, "This American Life" aired an episode called "Inauguration". the show was a collection of views about Barack Obama from people of all demographics. the synopsis:

372: The Inauguration Show
On the eve of Barack Obama's inauguration, we sent reporters out all over the country to talk to people about how they're feeling about this new president. Do they believe things will change? Do they think there'll be changes in their own lives? From dozens of hours of interviews, at a Marine Corps base and a button factory, at a New Orleans bar and a Florida town that used to be a stronghold for the Ku Klux Klan, we hear opinions about what's going to happen in America after the ceremony on January 20th, 2009.

the whole episode is great, but one particularly adorable moment was about a book of children's letters to barack obama called thanks and have fun running the country. some excerpts from the letters:

"Dear Obama, I like you because you won. We saw you on TV. I hope I am your friend." - Edwin Martinez, age 6, Los Angeles.

"If I were president, I would help all nations, even Hawaii." - Chad Timsing, age 9, Los Angeles.
[oh, LOL.]

"Dear Barack Obama, one thing you could fix is the economy. Something happened to me. I went out for lunch at Starbucks and I wanted to buy a cup of whipped cream. And normally it's 43¢ but now it's 74¢. The price raised 31¢ for no reason! So you should probably try to change things like that from happening. You should keep an eye out for things like that. I wish you good luck. PS. I love whipped cream." - Alexis Feliciano, age 9, Brooklyn.

"Dear President Obama, I have agreat idea for you: you should set up a special phone, a special place just for kids to call the president if they find things that are dangerous and can affect people, like someone smoking. This would be a special place for kids to talk to Barack Obama and let him know what's going on." — Dhamaril Nunez, age 9, Boston.
[Barack Obama smokes.]

"1. Fly to the White House in a helicopter. 2. Walk in. 3. Wipe feet. 4. Walk to the Oval Office. 5. Sit down in a chair. 6. Put hand sanitizer on hands. 7. Enjoy moment. 8. Get up. 9. Get in car. 10. Go to the dog pound." - Chandler Browne, age 12, Chicago.

is only like one of my favorite fashion blogs ever, so how awesome is it that our very own candy lin has her clothing line candy&caviar featured as a "designer to know" this week! the line is filled with textured tweed hooded vests and vintage-inspired cropped coats with contrasting satin linings and edgy details. yeah, i know, so cute, right?

watch this: milk.

"milk" documents the life and times of harvey milk, known as "the mayor of castro street", and his crusade as the first openly gay man to be elected to public office. a moving look into how a man admirably defeated negative public perceptions and brought homosexuality to the public eye. the movie never whitewashes harvey milk's bold and sometimes off-puttingly political personality - it tempers the somewhat controversial subject of milk's life with a respectful yet discerning point of view.

weekly wishlist: shawnimals.

what i really want right now. i covet these pocket pork plushies from shawnimals. i like how one is so happy and one is so grumpy.

which reminds me, when flora went to nyc she got me this special limited edition pocket ol' master ninja:

it's so freaking cute. and it's petite (hence it's a "pocket" ol' masta ninja).

oh and i can't leave out the awesome geeky ninja that chris got me:

his backstory is that he is a geek and attends many ninja conventions, which explains why he wears a ninjacon name tag and stays inside his box to keep himself in mint condition. i know, it boggles the mind how they come up with this stuff.
